Ambassador Yuji Kumamaru most recently served as the Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia.

He also served as the Japanese Consul-General in Hong Kong and Shanghai, and Political Minister of the Japanese Embassy in Beijing and Bangkok, as well as Secretary General of the Japan Taiwan Exchange Association in Taipei.

He is currently an advisor to the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies and the President of the Japan Youth Leaders Association.
